Reminder for potential Taranaki Scholastic Team members.
We wish to remind all those who are selected for the scholastic team (and the reserves) that
because this is a regional representative team, the final sign-off on participants must come
from Surfing Taranaki, who will need confirmation that team members have parental
approval/support along with feedback from schools that their attitudes, behaviour and
attendance (the absolute minimum is 2 out of these 3) are currently of an acceptable standard
as collated by the teacher in charge of surfing/sport via dean, subject teacher, or principal
reports.
The same will of course apply to all Surfing Taranaki organised initiatives and activities for
these youngsters including the High Performance Coaching, Team Taranaki inclusion, and
the Taranaki Surfing Squad.

Brian Kettle has received a Volunteering New Plymouth Volunteer Recognition Award.
"Brian is the Junior manager for New Plymouth Surf Riders Club and Taranaki Christian
Surfers Rep and Grom manager on Surfing Taranaki’s board. He organises the six Port Series
Junior competitions each year, and has now begun a new initiative being a number of
MicroGrom competitions for surfers under the age of 12 just starting out, selects and manages
the Taranaki scholastic team which came 2nd in NZ in the 2010 event, the best result ever, and
transports and chaperones a number of groms (young surfers) to competitions all over New
Zealand. Additionally Brian conducts the Saturday morning learn to surf sessions throughout
the summer at Fitzroy beach."
Well done Brian, and thanks again!
